Jerry Selness is a natural sailor. He can and has sailed most any sailing craft. In his youth, his brother and a friend, and he all rented Sabot-like sailboats from a dock at a corner of Coronado Bay, San Diego, California. They all sailed downwind fine, but Jerry was the only one to coax his boat back upwind to the dock by sailing. The others needed a tow. He really learned crewing and skippering some years later on the Indian Ocean when he was working as a Peace Corps teacher in East Africa. As a graduate student he studied aerodynamics and hydrodynamic at the University of California, Berkeley earning a Masters Degree (MS). Always a seeker of truth and a better understanding of “things,” he recently with persistence, solved the first Sudoku puzzle ever present to him, and discovered some new things as well along the way. In the photo he is working in his art studio on a sculpture about how energy grows. This sculpture would make a good installation in a plaza or on a corporate grounds.
